Bass Fishing Tournament
The Lake in the Hills Sportsmans Club sponsored its annual Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 11, 2011. There were 30 fisherman from all ages participating in the event. The Tournament commenced at 6:00 a.m. and around 7:00 a.m. there was whooping and hollering heard around the lake from the boat of Michael Lowry and Garrett Koeppler. Ray Novak, the Club's Vice President, immediately received a call from a nearby fisherman who stated that they had just pulled a very large fish into the boat and there was a lot of excitement. A few minutes later we discovered that the two 14 and 15 year olds from Huntley High School Fishing Club has just caught a 20" large mouth - the competition was now on. Word of this catch spread quickly across the lake and families and friends of the boys quickly turned up at the lake to see the tournament and cheer on the boys.

Many fish were caught during the day, but none came close to Michael's catch, until around 11:00 when more whooping and hollering was heard again. Garrett was now in the competition!

Garrett's catch - an 18" large mouth! So far these 2 young men had caught the 2 largest fish of the day. The excitement continued. Now, with their fish registered, they waited for the tournement to end to see if anyone was going to steel their win. Starting at 11:30 the rest of the boats started to come in and the boys waited in anticipation to see what was caught by the others.
At 11:50 another fisherman came in with a fish to register the boys and their friends held their breath as they watched the final fish get measured...only 15-1/2" THEY WON!

CONGRATULATIONS TO TWO OF OUR YOUNGEST COMPETITORS! 1ST AND 2ND PLACE!
Thank you to all of our participants for coming out to the 2011 Lake In The Hills Sportsmans Club Bass Fishing Tournament.

KIDS FISHING CLINIC
The Sportsmans Club held its annual Kid's Fishing Clinic on July 10th at Barbara Key Park. We want to thank all the parents and kids that came out for our event. The club registered 57 kids for the event. Lots of fish were caught including a 15" large mouth bass and lots of blue gills. The kids fished until 11:30 and had lunch until 12:30. The boyscouts presented a new map of the Woodscreek Lake to the Sportsmans Club at the end of the event. The boyscouts spent a day on the lake with GPS and did a remap of the lake, the first in about 10 years. Their efforts for the club are greatly appreciated. All the kids received a draw-string back pack full of fun stuff for attending the event. We look forward to seeing all of you back out there again next year.
